I'm not sure how far they will push ahead with Arya's story but I would love to see ( not spoilered as it is canon) them end an episode with Arya waking up blind - just think of the effect on the unsullied Arya fans, just as things seem to be looking up...

That gave me a huge sinking feeling of doom when I read it for the first time...

I do hope they bring in the wolf dreams that we haven't seen yet quite soon, if they know something we don't then is her link with Nymeria and possible warging ability just not important to her arc and the story?

I have a feeling that D & D are just going to make Bran the chief warg in GOT. He's the only one in the show who's had dreams about his dire wolf right?

So far, yes. I think they'll give Jon some, though.

They're cutting it a bit close aren't they? Methinks Mel will just give him the kiss of life straight after he's been shanked.

Will we get Mya Stone in S5? It would be nice to have some fresh characters for Sansa to interact with.

Melisandre will gather all seven Dragonballs and will use her wish to resurrect Jon.

I'm just glad that from now on they'll have almost no source material to rely on (except dorne and meereen, i think), so no crappy source material to hold them bag, i just hope they go completely independent, and fuck the books!

So what will they do with Davos?  I assume that they are going to cut out his trip to White Harbour completely and since we already have the Bolton's army at Winterfell they will do some build up to the Battle on the Ice and possibly bring it forward into this season without the Manderleys and the Mountain Clans (Stannis presumably has already bolstered his army with mercs using the Braavos loan)?

Will they send Davos off to look for Rickon, or will they just have him sticking close to Stannis and trying to thwart Melisandre in whatever she's doing?

I think so, why have him travel all the way up there? Davos works best when working off Stannis on screen. His whole Rickon quest is so damn stupid.

Yeah that friction in the Stannis / Melisandre / Davos triumvirate works very well and I can't really see them packing Davos off on fool's errands.

I suppose they could still do the "Frey Pie" stuff by just introducing the Manderly's and Freys as joining Bolton's army at Winterfell and showing the mutual distrust - if it is really of any importance but that subplot might not work too well on the show and I can see them setting it up as just the Boltons vs Stannis for supremacy in the north.

The Frey pie is too good of a thing to pass up, they'll definitely be doing it. I think Manderley will just show up for the wedding and we'll get to know more about him and his motivation from his interactions with Theon and possibly Mance, though I could easily see the show changing that whole Abel and the washerwomen storyline.

Davos seems much more fleshed out than in the books, so maybe he could carry that silly Rickon quest all by himself, but I doubt it. No need to send him on a wild goose chase when you already have show-Osha looking out for Rickon. If he's important later on, they'll show up at the right moment. Possibly joining Stannis, if they managed to reach the Umbers?

I'd love to see the "Frey Pie" but it might just take time to set up that they need to show other things. However, the set up of the enemy/(ies) within as the Boltons call the bannermen to them feels important to me too for the story. Seeing the Boltons get their due in the end and not just through the agency of Stannis would be a nice resolution but I only wonder if time constraints mean they end up simplifying it - though they can push it into season 6 of course.

Then again we end up going into the realms where we don't know what GRRM has planned yet...

I really don't think we're going to see the show reach into TWOW material as much as you guys think in S5, aside from Bran alot of the characters still have plenty of AFFC and ADWD chapters left to adapt.

There is more than enough material in those two books to fill out S5. And yes that's even with cutting out the so called "bloat."

IF TWOW isn't out by the time they start shooting S6 then we could be in trouble.

Al, I think like you. Somehow I get this feeling they'll stay on the 4th and 5th book a lot longer than most bookreaders think.

I do disagree though with you when it comes to Sansa. I don't know what they'll do with her and Petyr. She has just about material left as Bran. Which is basically nothing. If I were to speculate I'd say there's a high chance that she and Baelish might rally the Vale for the Starks and move toward the Riverlands. If Jaime is going to spend the season in Dorne then they might start creating their own storyline with the Arryns and Co rallying the Tully lands to their side (?)

So Sam traveling to Oldtown on his quest to become a maester is going to be scrapped right? That's one chop I'd be in favor of because the time could be invested in other more important storylines.

Could be that they find a reason to send Sam to Braavos and keep him their longer just to tie Braavos into the main stories more.  Not too sure what they'd do with Sam and Gilly by keeping them at Castle Black, and I'd have thought that if Sam has an end of game purpose it must be developing his magical/maester abilities.

Knowing what we know of Braavos history and lore but hasn't been touched on in the show, they could make some kind of repository of knowledge in Braavos to do with dragonlore.

Hmm I am not sure. After Sam's whole speech about never leaving Gilly's side again I don't know how their story will play out. I am confident that we'll still get their love scene at some point.

Imagine they let Sam deliver the final blow to Jon in the finale banderas I am still hoping D & D don't go down the predictable route when it comes to that scene, it'll be more shocking if they have a close friend shank him rather than give Thorne the pleasure.

Well if they are going to give us a "Dareon Moment" for Arya, then they have to have a reason for a NW man to be in Braavos, and sending Sam/Gilly/Aemon/Dareon (even though not seen since S1) there would fix that.  However of course they could easily choose to do something completely original and not in the books on that score.

I can live without the "Fat pink mast moment"  barf

Pretty sure that we can no longer take for granted that things will go as per the books anyway despite the wealth of material still to cover.

No way Sam will stab Jon. Not in a million years. More likely for Edd to do it and I won't even consider THAT.

And while we won't get the "fat pink mast" scene as Martin wrote it, I'm ready to bet those 1000 donals that Al seems to have extra laying around teehee that we'll get a variation of it.

You're probably right but I want that extra shock factor that D & D seem so keen on giving us each season. I'd settle for Edd, just no Slynt that'll be too predictable and gloomy.

sam gonna be shaking that sausage

Slung is dead meat. Maybe Olly can do it?
FYI in the books I completely understood Bowen Marsh, Jon was dangerous to the Night's Watch

Arianne has to be cast. She's a POV character. Gods only know how they will screw up the Queensmoot. My questions are much more revealing.

Shavepate? a must in my eyes
Will they really make Bran a tree?
Who the hell is going to hang Brienne if there is no zombie Cat?

And to all the speculation of the so called weaker material. FU! I am looking forward to a trip down the river with Tyrion and Co. I want to see Dany fly. I want to see Jorah get his ass kicked (badly)

Paul! I think you're the first one who said anything about Shavepate teehee I would have liked to have the Meereen plotting. I fear it might be cut. If they do cut it, I hope to get the Barristan duel with the pit fighter out of it at least in some way. I absolutely loved that duel. But no idea how you can bring it about, because Ser Grandpa goes to take into custody Hizdar for trying to poison Dany. That means poison locusts. I'm much to invested in this, I know!

I'm positive they'll mess up the Queensmoot if Vic and Euron are not there to challenge her, but I'm more concerned now with how Stannis captures her. If there's no Deepwood Motte, how will they fit that one in. I do hope for that battle though.

Well we have 9 months to wait now so I'll limit myself to Arya again before worrying about the less important characters teehee

Sorry it's a bit tl:dr !

Looking at Arya's story I think that if they are limiting themselves to 7 seasons then her story from FeastDance will be shown in the one season.  Some of what happens will depend on whether they include Sam's journey from Castle Black too,  plus we have no sign yet of a casting for The Kindly Man (ahem!) unless he was already cast and they didn't need to put out a  call as they did for The Waif.  I think we may only see 5 or 6 epis with Arya - I loved the book chapters but it may be a challenge to make them interesting for TV and compress it into an hour or less over the season.

Also if rumour is correct then we may see as an alternative a pairing of Arya with an established character, which would be good because as good Maisie is the best scenes have always been her bouncing off either her real father or a father figure type (Tywin. Thoros/Beric, The Hound).

What concerns me so far is not showing Arya warging at any point up to now but perhaps they will bring that in at last, maybe to show her ties back in Westeros but I think it could be they decide to bring it in as a completely new character development. That's pretty key to her not being able to completely discard her own real identity as is not throwing away Needle and in the books the lip biting which I've never seen in the show.

Key Points

Possibly very little or nothing in episode 1 so perhaps in episode 2:

Arya's arrival in Braavos by ship showing the Titan so non book readers are reminded of geography. Arya accepted in the House of B & W

Epi 3 and/or 4

A little bit of the temple routines before Cat of the Canals but I don't think they will feature it much. I enjoyed the book chapters but 2 months of CotC wandering around selling fish, learning Braavosi, hearing secrets and gossip will have to be compressed to the key points which is of course the killing.  The whole point of the killing is that she is dealing out "justice" in a throwback to the start of GoT so it can't be random and presumably this means we should at least see Sam in Braavos too ( that meeting where neither knows who the other is but we do is a must! ).

Epi 5

Arya is admonished and at another point given the milk, her waking up blind would be a great end of episode cliffhanger for the unsullied.

Epi 6 - nothing let 'em stew!

Epi 7

Now they might introduce the warging to show maybe another sense coming into play while she adapts to her blindness as Blind Beth and struggles to lose here identity to become no-one.

Epi 8

Arya tricks whoever to be given her sight back. She is made into the Ugly Little Girl and told of her assignment, a bit of following the target

Epi 9

By usual custom the big blowout episode so nothing for Arya

Epi 10

Arya carries out the assassination, is made an acolyte and told she is going to Izembaro...

So much depends if D&D decide to go off on their own thing. I'd be disappointed if it turns out that the warging is of no significance after GRRM has set it up, and if we don't see the Sam and Arya meeting, so I hope that we do see Jon sending Sam and Maester Aemon on a mission that at least takes them via Braavos. As for Dareon, we only saw him briefly in S1 so they might just send some other random NW man along as muscle. I have a feeling that the assassination quest may be started and finished quickly as it doesn't have the advantage of narrative to explain the method, I don't know if D&D will be that subtle to show the whole long sequence whereby Arya chooses her method - I hope so as it's a great way to show Arya's intelligence and cunning.

Or maybe not. I don't think it matters if he is a Targ or not. Unless ... OMG. That would be cool wouldn't it? Bloodraven and the Night's King in cahoots to get a Targ back on the throne.

Er why would the NK care about who's on the Throne?

I imagine him being a Targ is important enough to reveal if the reason he was sent to the Wall (and went missing afterwards) is important. And I imagine it is, they'll be needing some backstory to fill his scenes with Bran which will be static as hell.
