Either way it seems like a rather silly complaint. Plenty of children look very little like their parents, and they dont look massively dissilimilar.

Looks like the Dorne on the map nontroversy is still going. Is this the new "your sister"?

Maybe they should have renamed Dorne "Only Cat." ;)

The Dorne thing is kinda stupid, but not something to go mad over.
Also, Al- after watching the second trailer, I think this season may end up being the best one yet by far. For one, they don't have any budget restrictions anymore- and it shows. And all the storylines are headed in really interesting directions. Overall, it's not too alarmingly different from the books (aside from Sansa, Dorne and the lack of the Greyjoys and Aegon). The basic structure, themes and events are looking to be the same. What they added is more action (which really was missing in AFFC and ADWD), and a few little twists and character switches.

I can't wait to see how far into TWOW they go.

One of the best aspects of season 4 was how Oberyn was handled, he came in, became a fan favorite and then dropped the mic with his exit. I barely remember the Sand Snakes from the books, from what I remember they were introduced, and when they vowed revenge Doran sent them away ( correct?). So as long as they have fun things to do, I'll be happy.

And damn Nymeria....creeperfinger

More like locked them away... and then let them out again...

I am really looking forward to this season. I think it's gonna be one of the best yet. Fuck the author and his inability to produce.

D&D are the ones keeping the torch of the Song Of Ice and Fire series, GRRM Basically made himself be the novelist that releases the books after the tv show finishes the story for him....of course this is nightmare fuel for book purists....but meh...who cares.

What I think is going to be amusing is watching people flip out over "changes," when they don't know whether they're actual changes, or from material which has yet to be published.

They'll flip out no matter what, seems like some sort of requirement amongst the "true fans" to trash talk the show whenever possible, just part of their endless pissing competition over who is the most snob know it all on things asoiaf.

About the sand snakes, they're just the second Inigo Montoya generation, who will take revenge on the guy who killed their father when he was trying to get revenge on that same guy for killing his sister. But if The Mountain is now a zombie kingsguard i wonder how this one is going to play out.

Their voices are loud, but very few as far as I know, only on the internet in certain spots *cough*Westeros.org*cough* you find em...everywhere else the show is lauded through the roof in the mainstream media.

Critic scores, media sales and viewership numbers are rock solid.....I bet it's quite simple for D&D to ignore the haters, because honestly, why would they give them the time of day?

Get off your high horse. D & D wouldn't be in the position they are right now if it wasn't for George.

Getting real sick and tired of these so called "fans" on here.

My high horse is awesome!

But lets present a hypothetical, there is a lotta talk of the show running for 10 seasons now ( prefer 7 myself). I assume at the end of season 5 all published material has been exhausted, then lets say season 6 uses manuscript materials ( of if we are lucky TWOW gets published just before.) How much material will have to be invented solely for the show to last the remaining 4 seasons?

And if invented stuff is..well...good...what will there have to be said then, Al? There will be no base of comparison.

I think there is so much in the last two published novels that wouldn't work on screen, it needs to be trimmed (and I didn't hate the last two books. There were parts of each I liked, though I didn't like either of them as much as the first 3). Whether I'll like the choices, or agree with them I won't know until the entire series is published. Only then will I know the differences, so only then will I be able to form an opinion.

Please, D & D haven't gave anything as good as the stuff they created in S1. George is the far better writer, D & D are on a par with TWD writers.

They are. The majority of stuff D&D have came up with in the last couple seasons has just been for action and shock value, nothing has been as subtle or ingenious as Tywin's skinning scene. Creatively the duo seemed tapped out.

^Not really, there are still some really cool original scenes every once in a while (that new Drogon scene from the trailer looks like it's going to be one of those). It's the bigger changes they do that end up being hit or miss (and I think Dorne will be exactly that this season). But this season is also looking to have some very interesting big changes such as Sansa in Winterfell (yes, that might still end up being terrible, but I'm optimistic about it) and Hardhome especially.

I fail to see how the Tywin Deer skinning scene was subtle. It was a about as blatantly obvious as you can get. It was a good scene though.

Also, criticising D&D for using shock value is just hilarious. What books have you been reading Al?

Sid!

I will always point out what doesnt work in the show, some things have been mishandled. Others were odd choices, and some things plainly don't work. But to me at least they have been only a small percentage of the show.

Al, I welcome your opinion, even if it is the minority opinion, but I have a hard time respecting it if you seemed to have already formed an opinion before seeing a single episode has aired.

I can understand you being apprehensive, but having a forgone conclusion seems unfair to your enjoyment of the show, because why bother if everything seems to annoy and upset you?

WHY AL WHY?

Yes, it's a good thing you used that quotation mark.

Just what do you expect people here to do, Al? Reinforce your prejudice? We're not all here to please you.

In case you haven't noticed, this was always (but not exclusively) a show-oriented forum and it never presented itself otherwise.

The complete 4 seasons show has a 90% positive combined approval rating at review aggregate sites, so the show on it's own is doing fine on it's own merits.

I see the same thing here, most of the members here like the show, despite it's flaws, and I would say only 10% folks here do not like the direction the show is taking. And thats fine too.

But one should be fair, if something sucks...please tell me you determined that *after* you experienced it.

OK I don't know if anyone's seen this yet: www.youtube.com/watch but if you stop at 0:08-0:09, there's kind of a Mysha moment there with a dar haired woman on a raised platform and people raising their arms towards her in concentric circle. But it is not Dany freakout A red woman? In Meereen?! It looks like Meereen. Whoa!!!!!!!!!!

I fail to see what's so hilarious about this line. The difference in subtly between George and D & D is astronomical, these are pair of nitwits who felt the need to shoehorn in unnecessary torture scenes between Ramsay and Theon. And that scene with Tywin was very subtle since more than half of the audience didn't even get the reference.

I really don't the blind faith people have in D & D here, it's sad and extremely disappointing to know that "fans" seem unwilling to accept blatant botches of a rich and wonderful series. And don't give me that crap about how AFFC and ADWD aren't great books because that is complete and utter bollocks.

And Cary and Dolan can stick their stupid gifs and memes where the sun don't shine. Like a bunch clapping seals on the sidelands.

Ratings mean jack shit to me, Iron Man 3 got rave reviews and that movie was gash.

Why do I need to wait when I've already seen D & D mishandle several characters and arcs throughout the seasons, it's clear to me that they have lost their way. If a ship is sinking you don't stay on board in the hope of it reaching shore.

Al, I like you brother, but you gotta stop getting worked up. Lady Ly has the exact same opinions as you, yet she never lashes out...take things in stride and don't take things personally. Calling folks names and sheep sets a angry president that I find upsetting.

I am sorry Don, it's frustrating being a member of this forum at times. I understand people have different views and opinions but some of cynical comments here make my blood boil.

That and witnessing my favourite fantasy series become a shell of its former self. Some of the attitudes about the future direction of this show really brings me down.

But Al, even GRRM has said..."the books will always be the books...the show will never effect them...the show does not put them to the flame, they will always be there for you to pick up and read".

You can simply choose to ignore it, wait for the next book ( prospects seem to say the soonest is early next year and thats good)...because you really seem to not be enjoying yourself, why put yourself through it?

Al! I agree with you on D&D too, I don`t like them as writers or directors and I`m not really a fan of the show ( I love some of the actors though) but come on, you are doing the same you are criticizing. Noone here is D&D´s unreasonable fan but you are if you deny people a bad opinion of the books or a good one about the show. I don´t think the books are really good and the last ones are just bad for me and you can´t say a thing to me about it. Is just books and tv shows, who cares. You can say whatever you want about D&D but about people here? there´s no need.

Yeah but the show could be so much more though, we've seen just how fantastic the show can be when they try their best to stick to the source material. I am not saying every single page needs to be adapted, I am more than willing to compromise when it comes to certain instances. I've just grown weary and worried after seeing what they've done in the last couple seasons.

Asha for example, one of my favourite characters in the entire series was completely ruined and made a mockery of. It's hard for me to forgive D & D for what they have done to her.

Book Asha < Show Yara

Book Asha is Red Sonia and Xena's love child. Shits so redundant.

I completely agree on Asha, it has been a disaster, from the look of the character to her mannerisms, actually the way I imagined her to look like in my mind while reading the book is almost exactly like the actress they have playing Tyene this season...replace her daggers with "the suckling babe" and she is straight from my imagination.

But not all can be winners, remember how I was one of the most vocal critics of the Hobbit? But after the trilogy finished, and I watched em all back to back, I reevaluated and admitted I was overly harsh....yes they are inferior to the original trilogy, but they aren't bad at all.

I hope one day you can see the same and realize as far as adaptations go, there SO much worse out there, we are kinda lucky. I mean, read up what is happen to the poor "Wheel of Time" books...whoa..terrifying.

On that we can agree my friend. GOT isn't that bad but it has the potential to be one of the greatest shows of all time.

We'll see, my expectations for S5 are so low that perhaps I might end up enjoying it regardless.

Al spiderkill you cannot lose your cool with these people! And by these people I mean the people who think D&D can do no wrong or that Martin gets everything wrong. (And by everything I mean the last two books really )

Just do like I do. Every time I see them bashing Quentyn, I imagine a bunch of guys/girls with their pants around their ankles, trying to run. Works every damn time.

I am 100% behind you regarding Yara. Asha > Yara. And I do think that D&D writing a whole season without actual source material will be difficult to say the least. Why? Because the changes they've made however small they were, I personally considered them a hit and miss. To carry a whole season at high quality would be difficult, while not impossible. I'll have to see. But on the downside, I've seen Martin's Beauty and the Beast. Trust me, he's not that amazing script writer himself...

Well, I disagree on the subtlety point, but clearly there's no point in debating that. We'd be here all day trading examples.

I don't have blind faith in D&D, but I do generally trust them to do a good job, because I enjoy most of their material. Same as how you enjoy most of GRRM's material. I wouldn't even call myself a fan of the books anymore, just of the show

I accept that they've made mistakes, like the Sept scene, the Yara rescue. And I can accept that some scenes are worse in the show for their changes, like the Nightwatch's march back to the Wall. But I generally find I don't even think about the books when watching the show, and that they've generally become separate in my mind. So in the end most of these things don't really bother me.

There was no shepherd leading me to loving the show, just as I'm sure there is no-one leading you to love Feast and Dance. I don't hold these opinions just to enrage you Al. Though I admit to sometimes baiting you, and I'm sorry about that.
